HaDivadlo: Agony (ancient reality show)
Who are these women about whom Homer wrote so little and to whom myth collectors devoted only a few lines? Wives, lovers, mothers, daughters, sisters, servants, but also sorceresses, witches, seductresses, murderers, or "tradwives." Idealized archetypes, or vivid beings with their own opinions, desires, experiences, and problems?
Ancient tragedy turns into a reality show. Why did they sign up for Agony, what are they fighting for, and what do they expect from victory? How much do these heroines have in common with today's Helenas, Clytemnestras, Penelopes, Medeas, and Cassandras? Is it a struggle for power and visibility, for a voice and a rose, or a desperate fight for sovereignty? But isn't Agony really just a trap set by patriarchy? A woman's life as an emancipation race to escape the myth of gender.
Agony (an ancient reality show) is an original production about the identity of contemporary women. Where does external pressure end and internal pressure begin? The past meets the present in the struggle for equality and fair conditions for all in every era. Can our myths be healed?
The production is being created in direct collaboration with members of the HaDivadlo ensemble using the "devised theater" method. It draws on Greek mythology according to Robert Graves, various forms of literary reinterpretations of myths, and the book of essays by Šárka Homfray and Michaela Karásek Čejková, Proč jsme tak (na)štvané (Wo-men, 2022).
