The Dresden Dolls have announced the release of a newly recorded version of their seminal 2006 album *Yes, Virginia…*. The reissue, titled *Yes, Virginia…(Tailor’s Version)*, is set for release on August 7, 2026. The title references the trend of re-recording albums, following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, and symbolizes the end of their twenty-year contract with Roadrunner Records. However, the new version of the album is not just a copy of the original. It reflects two decades of musical and personal growth for both members and offers more mature, dynamic, and emotionally deeper interpretations of songs like “My Alcoholic Friends,” “Sex Changes,” “Backstabber,” and “Sing.” The reissue also comes at a time when The Dresden Dolls’ popularity is surging once again. The song “My Alcoholic Friends” has surpassed 240 million streams, and the band recently received its first platinum certification for it, nearly twenty years after the album’s original release.
The album Yes, Virginia… was originally created at a time when the American duo operated on the fringes of the club scene and underground theater. Even then, however, it earned a reputation as one of the boldest recordings of its time. Critics often highlighted the contrast between the raw piano energy and the theatrical, sometimes provocative lyrics, which explored themes of sexuality, identity, and social taboos. Despite the band’s cult status, however, some songs from the album gradually became viral hits many years later thanks to social media, which significantly contributed to their current return to the musical spotlight.

The Dresden Dolls formed in Boston in 2000 after a chance meeting between Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione at a Halloween party and quickly became one of the most distinctive bands on the underground scene. Their blend of punk energy, cabaret aesthetics, and theatricality defined the punk cabaret genre and produced cult classics like “Coin-Operated Boy” and “Girl Anachronism.” The band has performed at prestigious festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza, and shared the stage with artists like Patti Smith, The Cure, and Cyndi Lauper. After an unofficial hiatus since 2008, both members have been working on their own projects. But now the duo is returning with new energy, a “new” album, and another chapter together.
