Green theater shorts
Is there a pressing environmental issue in your community that people are talking about (or, conversely, keeping quiet about)? Is a piece of your landscape disappearing before your eyes? Are you dealing with drought, a new incinerator, or wind farms? Or are you interested in how local people relate to nature? Turn it into a theatrical piece and bring it to ARCHA+!
Culture for Future ARCHA+, in collaboration with the National Institute for Culture’s ARTAMA department, is announcing a call for submissions from amateur theater clubs, troupes, and groups from across the Czech Republic.
Guidelines
Format: One-act play, short production, staged reading, or performance.
Length: Ideally between 15 and 30 minutes.
Theme: Any environmental topic. We’re most interested in projects that emphasize a local context—that is, what’s happening right where you live, in your region, city, or village. We want to see how climate change is affecting your immediate surroundings. And how you’ll approach the topic “on stage.”
However, this isn’t a requirement: If you have a great idea for a production that addresses broader environmental issues, be sure to apply as well! All strong concepts have a chance.
Form: We’re open to any genre—from classical drama to documentary theater, puppet theater, and movement-based performance.
Dates
Application deadline: October 29, 2026
Announcement of results: by November 15, 2026
Date of the final evening at ARCHA+: April 17, 2027
Please send applications and any questions to the following email address: anna.gumplova@archa-plus.cz with the subject line “OPEN CALL Zelené kraťasy.”
We look forward to your ideas. Let’s show, together, that theater can respond to the world around us—both sensitively and loudly!
The expert committee will select 4 to 5 projects, which will receive:
- A performance at ARCHA+: The opportunity to present a production on a professional stage in Prague as part of a curated theater evening.
- Travel allowance: Reimbursement of travel expenses for the final evening up to 2,500 Kč per troupe.
- Feedback and networking: Feedback from theater professionals and the opportunity to meet other theater groups from across the Czech Republic.
- A gift for the team: A case of Budvar beer for the entire troupe.
Award for the evening’s winning project: During the evening, the committee will select the winning project. Its creators will have the opportunity to establish a potential long-term collaboration with the Culture for Future platform for the further development and staging of the production, or for performances at events and projects organized by NIK (if this suits the nature of the project). The winning troupe will also receive a keg of Budvar beer.
You don’t need to have a finished performance just yet; a well-thought-out concept is enough for us. Please email the following to anna.gumplova@archa-plus.cz:
- A synopsis of your idea (max. 1 standard page in Word or PDF)—what theme you’re exploring and in what form.
- A short excerpt from the text or a work-in-progress (e.g., 2–3 pages of a script, a synopsis of scenes, a short video from a rehearsal…).
- Brief information about your group.
- Optional: A video clip or the entire performance.
